Overview
Progress weightings allow you to customise how Overall Progress and Learning Aim Progress are calculated for a learner. When enabled, weightings can be applied to learning aims and units to determine how much each contributes to the learner’s progress.
Who Can Use This Feature?
- Centre Manager
- Internal Quality Assurer (with permission)
- Assessor (with permission)
Centre Settings
The following setting must be enabled:
- Enable learning aim and unit weightings
Permissions
- Manage learner accounts
How Progress Weightings Work
When weightings are disabled, progress is calculated based on:
- The total number of criteria
- The number of criteria completed
When weightings are enabled:
- You can assign weighting values to Learning Aims and Units.
- Learning Aim weightings affect Overall Progress.
- Unit weightings affect Learning Aim Progress.
Steps to Set Progress Weightings
Option 1: Set Weightings in a Learner’s Portfolio
To change Overall Progress:
- Access the learner’s portfolio.
- Click the Learning Aims tab.
- Add a number to the Weighting field for every Learning Aim.
- Click Save.
To change Learning Aim Progress:
- Click the Units tab.
- Add a number to the Weighting field for every Unit within each Learning Aim.
- Click Save.
Option 2: Set Weightings in a Framework Template
Learning Aim Weightings
- Click Centre in the navigation bar.
- Click Framework Templates.
- Create a new template or edit an existing one.
- Click the Learning Aims tab.
- Add weighting numbers for each Learning Aim.
- Click Save.
Unit Weightings
- Click the Units tab.
- Add weighting numbers for each Unit.
- Click Save.
Changing a Framework Template
Only a Centre Manager can edit progress weightings on a Framework Template.
Important: Updating weightings in a Framework Template will not update existing learners already assigned to that template.
To apply the changes:
- The Framework Template must be reassigned to the learner(s).
Warning: Reassigning a Framework Template will override all existing learning aim and unit selections.
Additional Notes
- Progress weightings only affect actual progress unless the Centre setting “Apply weightings to target progress” is enabled.
