Resolve a conflict in data

Overview

A data conflict occurs when the online version of an assessment, plan, or review has been edited after it was synced to the Eportfolio App. When the app version is later synced and the system detects differences, a conflict is created.

Instead of automatically overriding information, Onefile allows you to choose which version to keep. The user who caused the conflict (e.g., the learner or assessor who synced the item) will be responsible for resolving it.

What Happens When a Conflict Occurs?

The user will receive a task notification instructing them to Resolve Conflict. This must be actioned before further work can continue on the affected item.

Steps to Resolve a Conflict

1. Open the Task

  • Tap the task labelled Resolve Conflict.

2. Decide Which Version to Keep

  • Keep Online — choose this if you want to keep the version stored in Onefile Eportfolio.
  • Keep App — choose this to keep the app version.
Important: You must unlock the assessment, plan, or review before selecting this option.

3. If You Need to Keep Both Versions

If both versions represent different work (e.g., two separate assessments), follow these steps:

  • Manually recreate one of the versions in Onefile.
  • Copy the content from the online version into the new item.
  • Then, resolve the conflict by choosing Keep App.

Important Notes

  • Always compare both versions carefully before choosing which one to keep.
  • Keeping both versions requires manual recreation of one version.
  • Only the user who caused the conflict can resolve it.
  • Conflicts must be resolved before any further signing or editing can occur.
